Jewish adults who have never studied Judaism nor celebrated a bat-bar mitzvah in their youth often seek a fuller and more meaningful relationship with their Judaism. Teaching adults exceptionally fulfilling for me and I’d be thrilled to guide you on this joyful journey of discovery!
You may choose to study Biblical or Modern Hebrew, learn Torah, deepen your knowledge of Jewish history, dive into Jewish mysticism, explore Jewish answers to life’s most profound questions all while clarifying your own understanding of God and spirituality. Let’s set up a time to talk about your journey to celebrating an adult bat mitzvah.
Some adults master sufficient Hebrew to lead a service and deliver a drash at their congregation and others study some Torah, learn some blessings and prayers and are called to the Torah for an aliyah. Whether you celebrate with your home community or here in Israel, I am available to support you on this exciting and transformational journey!
Ruth, a Jewish mother from Wisconsin, had raised two boys celebrated each ones bar mitzvah, but had never herself been called to the Torah! She and her husband Michael came to Jerusalem to hold an intimate Adult Bat Mitzvah at Robinson’s Arch. It was so moving for Ruth as she strengthened her connection to Judaism, God and Israel that her eyes filled with tears of joy!
While I was rabbi at Beth Israel Judea, eight women, 40-70 years old, celebrated their Nashot Mitzvah together. For some of them it was the culmination of 3 years of study. When some of them began, they didn’t know aleph from tav, and this was the fulfillment of of a lifelong dream. They formed beautiful friendships with one another and formed at cadre of new leaders in the community – both in ritual and governance of the congregation. It was an incredible moment and remarkable success!
Rabbi Rosalind Glazer guided me on my journey to Judaism at Beth Israel Judea in San Francisco where my family had belonged for 24 years. Although I began the process before we met, I studied with her monthly for almost 2 years and I welcomed the learning. I discovered that I’m drawn to prayer through song since that is when my heart is most open and I connect most fully with G-d.
We explored Jewish practices, examined religious beliefs and discussed sacred texts and challenging issues. When I completed my studies, Rabbi Glazer guided me through the conversion rituals of beit din & mikvah and on the following Shabbat, in the presence of my family and our supportive community, I was called to the Torah for an aliyah and delivered my first dvar Torah. Thus I formally joined the Jewish people – entering the land of milk and honey of Judaism, a very good land indeed – and for this I am eternally grateful. – Lynn, Oakland, CA
What a special Bat Mitzvah! Thank you for your thoughtfulness, enthusiasm and grace – and also for your amazing singing! I felt honored to be part of such a beautiful celebration and we could not have asked for a better setting! – Nicole, Jerusalem, Israel
